TESTIMONIALS
“If I knew about this process when I first joined the fire department, I would certainly be a firefighter today chasing my dream, still be married to my first wife and have a great relationship with all my children.”
- Steve, Firefighter/Paramedic
“After attending Chris’ course, I left feeling much more knowledgeable about the daily stressors my husband deals with at work. The constant fight or flight takes such a huge toll on both law enforcement’s mental & physical health. The importance of understanding my husband’s needs to be able to decompress in a healthy way but also being able to have communication with one another is key.”
– Alyson, LE spouse
“Your ability to gain the trust of officers to the point they will share and show emotion in a room full of cops is astonishing to me. I was surprised when you made it happen in the eight-hour class. But to get two people to do it in the two-hour class at CopsWest 2023 Conference was a miracle. I had the opportunity to speak with a woman after the class. She said the story the officer shared made her cry. She realized that she had so many experiences that led her to that same exact reaction and was relieved to discover that she might have a path to peace of mind. She also had the reaction of us older people who have been carrying around our baggage thinking that was the way it was supposed to be; and, are now wondering where was our Freedom First Aid 25 years ago! You’re a saint my friend and will no doubt not just save lives but give us a path to true quality of life during and long after our careers are over.”
– Gail, Retired LE Captain
“I wish they had this 20+ years ago when I became an RN!! I plan to use this with my hospice clients as well as my LEOs.”
- Dani, RN, LE Chaplain
“This course helped me realize that I needed first aid because I had a sensory brain injury caused by a call for service I had as a chaplain. After the exercises, now I know what I have to do for my health and healing.”
- Cedric, LE Chaplain, SSGT Marine
“The first aid wellness class was a class with information that is essential in all law enforcement officers lives. In my 18-year career this was the first time I have been through the importance of understanding the trauma we face day in and day out. How it affects our mental state which can lead to personal and family issues if not handled early on when exposed to traumatic events. This to me is an essential class for all new officers beginning their law enforcement careers.”
- Manny, LE Lead Investigator
“I’ve had my moments. When they hit me while I’m awake, I use the techniques from the class and it works great. More often, it affects me while I’m sleeping and I can’t control it. On those nights, I lose a lot of sleep. It was happening three or four nights a week, but it has been tapering off to maybe once a week. I am healing.”
- Eric, Coroner 2
“I first took this class when it was in its prep stages while in the police academy and then took it again in its completed format as a new deputy. Both times it has impacted my life in ways I never could have imagined. I have used the methods and coping mechanisms taught in this class in both my personal and work life. I truly honestly believe that EVERYONE in a law enforcement, the medical field, and/or any career that pushes the human brain, emotions, health, and mental status past its normal limits would benefit from the material taught. This class emphasizes the importance of detecting, coping, and curing injuries (mental and emotional) that we sometimes fail to see when we are working nonstop and seeing traumatic life changing things on the job on a daily basis. As a plus, this class also focuses on helping families better understand how to help their loved one who is going through the hardship of having to deal with seeing chaos on a daily basis. This class is really a help and heal all in one bundle for either and individual or the family unit. I would 1000000% recommend this class to anyone who has been debating taking it or struggling with balancing life and the job.”
- Stephanie, LEO
“I want to reiterate that your class was great and in my humble opinion is vital and could be a cornerstone to deputies having successful careers, healthy professional/personal lives and relationships. I spoke with our head chaplain today and advised him that in my professional opinion as a retired law enforcement officer and chaplain this class would assist chaplains immensely to achieve their mission when asked to strengthen deputy’s faith, families and relationships”
- Jeff, Retired Homeland Security, Marine, LE Chaplain
“Why didn’t I get this when I was in the military?”
- LEO, Marine
“Every new law enforcement couple should take this course. I wish I had taken it before my divorce! This course put the experience of the LE life into articulate wording and applicable scenarios and science. Life happens in the interim, I appreciate this course’s focus on maintaining what matters”
– Nicole, Coroner 2
“The Freedom First Aid course was one of the best courses I have seen offered at Ben Clark Training Center. I highly recommend pushing as many sworn and CSO's (community service officers) through this course as possible. The course deals with deputy mental health, the importance of debriefs, and how to deal and cope with traumatic critical incidents. It also provides resources and a new application for personnel to use to find these resources.”
- Kory, LE Sergeant
“For each of us, our careers began in the academy, with strenuous physical activities and stress inoculation. The academy experience changed the way we viewed the world and the people in it. Taking control, becoming excessively vigilant and overprotective become the “normal way” we live our lives on or off duty. With sixteen years of law enforcement experience, I fell victim to this mentality. While these behaviors keep us safe on duty, they are destroying our personal lives. The challenge for officers today is to recognize the emotional injuries early and implement correct coping mechanisms. To fully understand the impact of your emotional injuries, it is important to recognize what they are and how they came to be.The Freedom First Aid Process course will provide the necessary skills to examine and repair past experiences and develop strategies for future incidents. Take the step towards emotional resiliency and create a better version of yourself by taking this course!”
- Edward (LE Corporal, Crisis Negotiating Team)
“I went on the ride along with a deputy who was recently involved in an officer-involved-shooting. The Freedom First Aid was very effective.”
- Jeff, LE Chaplain
“Chris’ course was extremely helpful for my wife and myself. It helped us learn ways to cope and deal with stress that not all officers realize they are dealing with. It was great getting to see some of the science behind the brain activity of officers influenced by stress. I highly recommend the course to all new officers to help with not taking home the stresses of the job.”
– Cody, LEO
“It clicked! It was like when your back goes out. You crack it back into place and the pain goes away. My pain went away as I kept applying the tools given in this course. I was back in control. My mind was calm; and told the chaplain upon follow-up that I was using these tools in other situations.”
- Jennifer, LE Dispatcher
